From idea to keycap
Every keycap starts with a concept drawing.
After fiddling with ideas, we get a rough concept drawing to
transform
into a sculpture, using various software such as
Zbrush, Maya, and more.
When we have the complete sculpture, we reconstruct the sculpture
into
a functional keycap that can sit tightly on a Cherry Mx
key switch
and look right on the keyboard.
Testing the keycap is one of the most crucial parts of the
process.
We 3D print tests of the keycaps, checking the print's quality,
details of
the sculpture, fitness, and much more, to make
sure that we can
proceed to the next step with a reliable
product.
We create a color palette and coloring method for painting the
keycaps to
ensure uniformity across all the keycaps line.
We look for vibrant colors and complementary colors but trying to
stay as
close to the original idea we had at the early
stages.
Mabey, the most enjoyable part of the whole process, is the
coloring.
We take extra care, paint meticulously and carefully each keycap
by hand,
using small brushes and other tools like airbrush and even tools
made explicitly for the keycap made at the time.
When the keycaps are painted and covered in a protective varnish,
we
pack the keycaps in boxes and ship them to you.
